Roger Huckfeldt runs a registered herd of Longhorns and a herd of Angus cattle on the Bison-Basin Ranch near Torrington, Wyoming.
He's been using CRYSTALYX® for more than 12 years, through all types of weather. In dry years, such as this one, CRYSTALYX® has provided excellent nutrition and is also an effective range management tool.
"It's pretty important that we keep the CRYSTALYX® in front of the cattle, Huckfeldt says. " When we've got really good grass the cattle consume CRYSTALYX® at pretty normal levels. During these drought conditions they're using it more, and that tells me they're needing the extra protein and minerals that are in the CRYSTALYX®. I've been using CRYSTALYX® BGF-30 out in the pasture and they've been doing real well on that.
"As far as grazing management, CRYSTALYX® has worked very well. We move the barrels around about every two weeks. I move the barrels to the grass and the cattle move with it and they utilize the grass a lot better. They do move to where the barrels are."
