Dr. Brent Kaufman's practice at the Goshen Veterinary Clinic in Torrington, Wyoming, brings him in contact with livestock producers in the area. He has more in common with them than their animal's needs. This veterinarian is also a cattleman, running about 200 cow/calf pairs. Another thing he has in common with many of his clients is that he supplements with CRYSTALYX®. Kaufman says CRYSTALYX® HE-20% has worked especially well for his operation when the weather turns cold.
"I run my cows on corn stalks in winter. The corn stalks lack a little bit in energy and protein, especially as you go on into the winter and early spring. I supplement with CRYSTALYX® and it seems to work real well."
The boost in supplemental nutrition that CRYSTALYX® supplies results in improved body scores for Kaufman's cattle.
"I think it picks them up in the winter, another body score at least, sometimes two."
Kaufman's calf crop has benefited from CRYSTALYX® as well.
"The cows have more energy. The increased body condition gives them more energy and they breed back a lot better in the spring when you turn your bulls out."
Kaufman has noted a significant improvement in his herd's conception rates thanks to CRYSTALYX®. The pregnancy testing work he performs through his veterinary practice confirms that.
"We do a lot of preg testing of the cattle in the area, and with the CRYSTALYX® you're probably getting an extra five to ten percent of your cows bred on average compared to guys that don't supplement."
As a veterinarian and a producer, what would Dr. Kaufman tell a client who asks about supplementing with CRYSTALYX®?
"I'd tell them I'd sure give it a try. I think it's a good product. This one works, so if anybody wants to try it they'd sure have my recommendation."
