Lester Colomb of Lafayette, LA, feeds CRYSTALYX® Brigade® in his 45-day post weaning feed program along with hay and normal dry feed. "Brigade has helped us attain a zero rate of illness and zero use of antibiotics. In addition, our dry feed usage was lowered by 30%." Consumption was .3 pound per-head, per-day during this 45-day post-weaning period, at a cost of just 11¢ per head per day.
The heifers remained on Brigade 150 days after the post-weaning period with grazing only. Yearling weights average 800 pounds with ultra-sound results showing above average marbling and good rib-eye sizes.
"We feel these are very good results on grass and CRYSTALX Brigade with no grain being fed."
"In mid June, we started all dry cows on Brigade and saw immediate results in body condition, hair coat color and appetite."
Consumption of Brigade with the dry cows was just 1/2 pound per-head, per-day. During this time, they went through 35-40 days of extreme heat and humidity with no rainfall. Yet, there were no cases of pneumonia and the cattle maintained good body condition.
Lester fed Wheat-lyx® to his yearling bulls and heifers from February through July, during those times of extreme heat and humidity, and saw his animals graze an extra four to five hours per day instead of heading for the shade.
"Feeding Wheat-lyx has allowed us to maintain the needed body condition to say on schedule for growth and performance with our purebred animals. The average daily intake was 1/3 of a pound and cost only 7¢ per head per day."
