"The cattle seem to have extra energy, and a little more get-up-and-go."
JOE LUDWIG
Solomon Valley Feeders Grand Island, NE
Joe Ludwig operates Solomon Valley Feeders in north central Kansas, south of Grand Island, Nebraska. Typically, they will finish 45-50,000 cattle in a year, bringing in calves between 500 and 600 pounds and finishing them at 1,200 to 1,300 pounds.
Joe has been evaluating Beef-lyx®, a CRYSTALYX® Supplement formulated for newly arrived calves in the feedlot. They have been feeding the Beef-lyx® barrels to stressed calves that have been pulled from the lots and placed in "hospital" or recovery pens.
Joe likes what he has seen so far from Beef-lyx® in the sick pens. "The cattle seem to have extra energy, and a little more get-up-and-go. We could see some improvement in the response of calves in the hospital area and in the incoming calves, also," he said.
The Kansas cattle feeder said that once a calf or two discovered the barrel, soon all the calves in the pen would be licking the Beef-lyx®.
"Their appetite would pick up and after a few days, they'd seem to have more bloom to them - a better appearance all-around, I'd say."
Joe indicated he plans to continue evaluating Beef-lyx® in the sick pens this fall as more calves enter the feedlot.
