Feeding Instructions

Practical guidance for optimal herd performance

Placement

Initially place containers in dry spots 150 feet from watering locations. Intake will depend on the size of the cattle fed, seasonal weather conditions, as well as quality, source, and availability of forage.

Relocation

Increase intake by moving the containers closer to water, and/or by increasing the number of containers in the pasture. Decrease intake by moving the containers farther from water, and/or by decreasing the number of containers in the pasture.

Accessibility

Feed on a free-choice basis.

Quantity

To establish required block consumption, feed cattle a non-medicated lowmoisture block for 14 days prior to introduction of this medicated block. After this introductory period, cattle should consume between 0.125 and 0.5 pounds of this medicated block per head per day, to provide 50 to 200 mg monensin per head per day. Feed at the rate of one container for every 10 to 30 head. New blocks should be placed out approximately every 4 weeks, depending on number of animals and average intake. A minimum of 2 containers may be required in each pasture to ensure proper accessibility for all cattle.

Monitoring

If containers accumulate precipitation, pour off precipitation and scrape away any loose material to expose the hardened block before allowing animals access to the supplement containers. Provide free access to clean, fresh water at all times.

WITHDRAWAL PERIODS AND RESIDUE WARNINGS: No withdrawal period is required when used according to labeling. A withdrawal period has not been established for pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.

USER SAFETY WARNINGS: Not for use in humans. Keep out of reach of children.

ANIMAL SAFETY WARNINGS: Do not allow horses or other equine species access to feed containing monensin. Ingestion of monensin by horses has been fatal. Monensin medicated cattle and goat feeds are safe for use in cattle and goats only. Consumption by unapproved species may result in toxic reactions. Do not exceed the levels of monensin recommended in the feeding directions, as reduced average daily gains may result.

Consumption of selenium should not exceed 3 mg/hd/day. This product contains copper and should not be fed to sheep or any species that have a low tolerance to supplemental copper. Excessive consumption may result in adverse toxic reaction.
